Instagram Line Break Generator
Free Instagram Line Breaker
Instagram collapses the blank lines you carefully added, and your spaced out caption publishes as one block. This adds invisible spacing characters so the breaks survive, without the row of dots people used to resort to.

All about the Instagram line breaker
Why does Instagram remove line breaks?
Instagram trims what it treats as empty whitespace when a caption is submitted, so consecutive newlines with nothing between them get collapsed and your paragraphs run together. The long standing workaround was to type a full stop or a dash on each blank line, which held the spacing but littered the caption with visible clutter. This tool inserts characters that occupy the line without displaying anything, so Instagram sees content and keeps the break while readers see clean space.
How to space an Instagram caption properly
The mechanics are simple, but two steps are easy to get wrong and both undo the whole thing.
- Write the caption with the spacing you want, using ordinary line breaks between paragraphs.
- Run it through the tool so the blank lines get their invisible spacing characters.
- Copy the entire output rather than retyping any of it. The spacing lives in characters you cannot see, so anything retyped loses it.
- Paste into the Instagram caption field and resist editing the blank lines afterwards, because editing in the app can strip them again.
- If you are scheduling instead of posting directly, paste into your scheduler and check the preview before it goes out.
Formatting captions that people actually read
Spacing is a readability tool, and like any tool it can be used badly.
- Put a break after your first line. That line is the roughly 125 characters visible before Instagram truncates, so giving it room makes the hook land.
- Keep paragraphs to two or three lines. Long blocks on a phone screen are what make people scroll past rather than read.
- Separate your hashtags from the caption with a break, or move them to the first comment entirely.
- Do not double space every single line. It looks affected and it pushes your actual content further behind the More link.
- Remember spacing does not change the character count. A well spaced caption still has to fit inside 2,200 characters.
Who uses this tool
Anyone whose captions are long enough to need structure.
- Creators writing story style captions, where paragraph breaks are the difference between something read and something scrolled past.
- Businesses listing product details, opening times or specifications that need to sit on separate lines.
- Anyone posting a recipe, a set of steps or a short list inside a caption.
- Social media managers preparing captions in a document and pasting them in, which is exactly where the spacing normally disappears.
- People who used to type a dot on every blank line and want the same spacing without the visible clutter.

Checked in September 2026. Instagram occasionally adjusts how it handles whitespace, and other apps that repost your caption may normalise it differently.
When this is not the right tool
Spacing cannot rescue a caption nobody wants to read. If people are scrolling past, the opening line is usually the problem rather than the layout, and the Instagram caption generator is the better place to start. Be aware too that the invisible characters count toward your 2,200 limit, so a heavily spaced caption has less room for words, and you can check that with the character counter. Other platforms mostly do not need this at all: LinkedIn, Facebook and X keep your line breaks without any help.
How teams picture using RepeatPost
“Honestly, the calendar is what sold me. I could see every channel in one view and spot the week we'd gone quiet. Before this I was juggling three spreadsheets and a Slack thread. Now I plan the month on a Monday morning and I'm done by half ten.”

United KingdomJun 14, 2026“We run social for eleven clients and keeping them separate used to be a genuine anxiety of mine. Workspaces fixed that. Each client sits in their own space, approvals route to the right person, and I've stopped worrying that someone's going to push a dental practice promo to a restaurant account at 6am.”

AustraliaJul 11, 2026“I'm handling social for four small brands and writing captions was eating my whole morning. The AI drafts are actually quite usable now. I still rewrite maybe every third one to sound like the client, but starting from something beats staring at a blank box. The hashtag tool alone I'm using daily.”

Now I sit down every Sunday evening, load up two weeks, and it goes out on its own. Sales have followed. I'd like to see WhatsApp added properly, that's my one ask.”

The approval flow sorted that in a week. Fair play, it's the least glamorous feature on the site and it's the one I'd miss most.”

Questions
Instagram strips what it treats as empty whitespace when a caption is submitted, so blank lines with nothing on them get collapsed. The tool puts an invisible character on each blank line, which makes Instagram treat it as content and keep the break.
You have to paste it. The spacing depends on characters you cannot see, so retyping the caption in the Instagram app produces ordinary blank lines that get collapsed again. Copy the whole output and paste it without editing the blank lines.
It achieves the same spacing without the clutter. The old workaround put a visible full stop or dash on each blank line, which held the break but left punctuation scattered through the caption. This uses characters that take up the line without displaying anything.
Yes. The invisible characters are still characters, so a heavily spaced caption has slightly less room for words. It is rarely enough to matter, but if you are close to the cap it is worth checking with the character counter.
Yes. Bios collapse line breaks the same way captions do, so the same approach works there. It also works in comments. Test the result on a phone, since the bio field is where spacing matters most visually.
Mostly not. LinkedIn, Facebook, X and Threads all preserve ordinary line breaks without any help. Instagram is the notable exception, which is why this tool exists for it specifically rather than as a general purpose formatter.
