Facebook hashtag generator

Free Facebook Hashtag Generator

Hashtags do less on Facebook than on any other major platform. People do not browse them, and the feed does not need them. There are a couple of situations where one helps, and this is straightforward about which.

All about the Facebook hashtag generator

Why hashtags underperform on Facebook

Facebook adopted hashtags long after other platforms and its users never really took to them. People do not browse hashtag pages here the way they do on Instagram or Mastodon, and the feed is built around your connections and Groups rather than around topics. Facebook has also never given tags a prominent role in distribution. The result is that a hashtag on an ordinary Facebook post typically does nothing at all, and adding several makes the post look like it was cross posted from Instagram without editing.

The situations where a tag still helps

There are a few, and they are specific.

  • Branded campaign tags, where you are asking people to use a tag so you can collect the posts.
  • Events, where a tag gives attendees a shared reference point.
  • Cross platform campaigns, where the same tag runs on Instagram and Facebook and consistency matters more than Facebook performance.
  • Groups with an established tagging convention, which some communities do maintain internally.
  • Outside those cases, an ordinary post is generally better with no hashtag at all.

What actually determines Facebook reach

Since tags contribute so little, it is worth being clear about what does.

  • Comments and shares, weighted far above likes. A share puts your content in front of an entirely separate network.
  • Native content over links. Facebook has long distributed posts that keep people on the platform better than those sending them away.
  • Video, which is treated differently from static posts and often reaches further.
  • Groups, which now carry a large share of genuine engagement and often outperform page posts.
  • Paid distribution, which is realistically how most business content reaches beyond existing followers on Facebook now.

Who uses this tool

Mostly people running campaigns rather than posting day to day.

  • Marketers running a branded campaign tag across several platforms at once.
  • Event organisers giving attendees a shared tag to post under.
  • Community managers in Groups with an internal tagging convention.
  • Social media managers scheduling identical content to Facebook and Instagram and deciding what to strip.
  • Anyone adding thirty tags to Facebook posts out of habit and wondering why nothing changes.

When this is not the right tool

For most Facebook posts you do not need hashtags at all, and it would be dishonest to imply otherwise. If reach is the problem, the levers are native video, Groups, content that earns comments and shares, and realistically paid distribution, none of which involve tagging. The Facebook competitor analytics tool shows what comparable pages actually do, including their live ads. For the posts themselves, the Facebook post generator is the more useful starting point.

How teams picture using RepeatPost

“Honestly, the calendar is what sold me. I could see every channel in one view and spot the week we'd gone quiet. Before this I was juggling three spreadsheets and a Slack thread. Now I plan the month on a Monday morning and I'm done by half ten.”

“We run social for eleven clients and keeping them separate used to be a genuine anxiety of mine. Workspaces fixed that. Each client sits in their own space, approvals route to the right person, and I've stopped worrying that someone's going to push a dental practice promo to a restaurant account at 6am.”

“I batch a fortnight of content on a Sunday arvo and then I don't think about it again. Reckon it's saved me a solid day a week. Only gripe is the mobile app still feels a step behind the web version, so I do the actual planning on my laptop. Everything else is spot on.”

“I'm handling social for four small brands and writing captions was eating my whole morning. The AI drafts are actually quite usable now. I still rewrite maybe every third one to sound like the client, but starting from something beats staring at a blank box. The hashtag tool alone I'm using daily.”

“I sell fabrics and my customers find me on Instagram mostly. Posting used to be whenever I remembered, which was maybe twice a week. Now I sit down every Sunday evening, load up two weeks, and it goes out on its own. Sales have followed. I'd like to see WhatsApp added properly, that's my one ask.”

“Our team is five people and we were losing posts in Slack threads. Someone would approve something, someone else would tweak it, and nobody knew which version went live. The approval flow sorted that in a week. Fair play, it's the least glamorous feature on the site and it's the one I'd miss most.”

Frequently Asked
Questions

Barely. Facebook users do not browse hashtag pages the way Instagram users do, and the feed is built around connections and Groups rather than topics. For an ordinary post, a hashtag typically does nothing measurable.

Zero to two. For most posts none is the right answer. Adding a block of tags makes a post look like it was cross posted from Instagram without editing, which is exactly how many of them get there.

For branded campaign tags where you want to collect posts, for events where attendees need a shared reference, and for cross platform campaigns where consistency across networks matters more than Facebook performance specifically.

Comments and shares above all, weighted well beyond likes. Native content is distributed better than links, video reaches further than static posts, and Groups now carry much of the genuine engagement on the platform.

Usually yes. A caption with 20 Instagram tags reads badly on Facebook and contributes nothing there. If the campaign requires one consistent tag across platforms, keep that one and remove the rest.

Sometimes, where a Group has established its own tagging convention for organizing discussions. That is a community practice rather than a platform feature, so it depends entirely on whether that particular Group uses them.
