Free Feed Planner

Free Instagram Feed Planner

Your profile grid is read as one image, not nine. Drag your upcoming posts around until the set works together, then publish in that order rather than discovering the clash afterwards.

All about the feed planner

The grid is judged as a whole

When someone visits an Instagram profile they see a grid rather than a sequence of individual posts, and they judge it in about two seconds. Colors that clash, three text heavy graphics in a row, or a run of similar shots all register instantly in a way they never do while you are posting one image at a time. A feed planner exists because the only way to see that in advance is to lay the images out together. It also surfaces the square crop problem across every image at once rather than one post at a time.

What to look for when planning

The grid problems that are invisible post by post.

  • Color balance across the visible rows, since a run of very dark or very bright images unbalances the whole grid.
  • Variety of shot type, because three similar compositions in a row read as repetitive.
  • Text heavy graphics, which look cluttered when they cluster together.
  • The square crop on every image, since portraits lose their top and bottom in the grid.
  • The top three rows especially, since that is what a visitor actually sees without scrolling.
  • Whether the set communicates what the account is about at a glance.

How much grid planning is worth doing

It is possible to over invest in this, and worth being honest about that.

  • The grid matters at the moment of a profile visit, which is when someone decides to follow.
  • It does not affect reach, since feed and Reels distribution has nothing to do with how your profile looks.
  • Rigid grid patterns, such as strict alternating layouts, constrain what you can post and often are not worth the cost.
  • Loose consistency in color and style delivers most of the benefit without the constraint.
  • For accounts posting Reels primarily, the grid matters less, since covers are less controllable.
  • Spending an hour arranging nine squares is rarely a better use of time than making a better post.

When this is not the right tool

Grid planning does nothing for reach. Instagram distributes based on engagement and watch time, and your profile layout has no bearing on whether a Reel is shown to anyone. It affects the conversion from profile visit to follow, which is a real but narrower job. It is also genuinely possible to spend more time arranging squares than making the content, which is a poor trade. For individual post checks, the Instagram post preview is quicker, and for the captions, the Instagram caption generator.

How teams picture using RepeatPost

“Honestly, the calendar is what sold me. I could see every channel in one view and spot the week we'd gone quiet. Before this I was juggling three spreadsheets and a Slack thread. Now I plan the month on a Monday morning and I'm done by half ten.”

“We run social for eleven clients and keeping them separate used to be a genuine anxiety of mine. Workspaces fixed that. Each client sits in their own space, approvals route to the right person, and I've stopped worrying that someone's going to push a dental practice promo to a restaurant account at 6am.”

“I batch a fortnight of content on a Sunday arvo and then I don't think about it again. Reckon it's saved me a solid day a week. Only gripe is the mobile app still feels a step behind the web version, so I do the actual planning on my laptop. Everything else is spot on.”

“I'm handling social for four small brands and writing captions was eating my whole morning. The AI drafts are actually quite usable now. I still rewrite maybe every third one to sound like the client, but starting from something beats staring at a blank box. The hashtag tool alone I'm using daily.”

“I sell fabrics and my customers find me on Instagram mostly. Posting used to be whenever I remembered, which was maybe twice a week. Now I sit down every Sunday evening, load up two weeks, and it goes out on its own. Sales have followed. I'd like to see WhatsApp added properly, that's my one ask.”

“Our team is five people and we were losing posts in Slack threads. Someone would approve something, someone else would tweak it, and nobody knew which version went live. The approval flow sorted that in a week. Fair play, it's the least glamorous feature on the site and it's the one I'd miss most.”

Frequently Asked
Questions

No. Instagram distributes posts based on engagement and watch time, and your profile layout plays no part in that. What the grid affects is whether a profile visitor decides to follow you, which is a narrower but real job.

Roughly the top three rows without scrolling, so that is where planning matters most. Anything below the fold on a profile is seen only by people already interested enough to keep looking.

Usually not. Strict alternating layouts constrain what you can post and demand constant maintenance. Loose consistency in color and style delivers most of the visual benefit without dictating what you are allowed to publish.

Because the profile grid crops everything to a square while feed shows up to 4:5. A portrait image that fits perfectly in feed loses its top and bottom on your profile, which is where it stays permanently.

No, everything runs in your browser and the images stay on your device. That matters when you are planning a launch or working with client material that has not been made public yet.

In moderation. It helps profile visits convert into follows, which is worth something. But spending an hour arranging nine squares is rarely a better investment than spending it making one better post.
