Free Instagram Bio Generator

You get 150 characters to convince someone who has never heard of you to tap follow. Most bios waste them on adjectives. This one writes bios that say what you do, who for, and what happens next.

All about the Instagram bio generator

What makes an Instagram bio work?

An Instagram bio has one job: convert a profile visit into a follow. You get 150 characters, and the visitor is deciding in about two seconds. That means the bio has to answer what you post and who it is for, immediately, before it does anything stylistic. The most common failure is spending the space on adjectives, because "passionate creator, coffee lover, dog mum" describes a person without giving anyone a reason to follow the account. The generator writes toward the reason instead.

How to structure 150 characters

A structure that reliably works, in the order the characters should be spent.

  • Line one: what you do and who for. This is the line that earns the follow, so give it the most space.
  • Line two: the proof or the specific detail. A number, a credential or a niche that makes you concrete rather than generic.
  • Line three: the call to action pointing at your link. Without it, people read your bio and leave.
  • Put searchable keywords in your name field, not the bio. Instagram search matches the name field, so "Sarah | Vegan Recipes" is findable in a way that the same words in the bio are not.
  • Skip the emoji list. A row of decorative emoji costs characters and adds nothing a stranger can act on.
  • Use line breaks for structure, and run the bio through the free line breaker if the spacing collapses when you save it.

Getting a better bio from the generator

The output is only as specific as the description you give it.

  • Name your niche precisely. "Fitness" produces a generic bio; "strength training for people over 50" produces one nobody else has.
  • Say what you want visitors to do: join a newsletter, book a call, shop a link. The call to action shapes the whole bio.
  • Mention anything concrete you can claim, such as a client count, a location or a credential. Specifics are what make a bio believable.
  • Generate for two different tones and compare. Seeing a formal and a playful version side by side usually settles which one fits you.
  • Rewrite the first line in your own words before saving. It is the line people actually read.

Who uses this tool

The bio is written once and then left alone for years, which is why getting it right matters more than its length suggests.

  • Creators whose follower growth has stalled despite decent content, where the profile is often the leak rather than the posts.
  • Small businesses whose bio lists what they are rather than what a customer gets from them.
  • People rebranding an account into a new niche and needing the profile to state the change clearly.
  • Anyone whose bio is a list of emoji and job titles that a stranger cannot decode.
  • Freelancers using the profile as a landing page, where the bio has to sell before the link does.

When this is not the right tool

A bio cannot fix a feed. If people visit your profile and leave, the bio is only one of three things they judged, alongside your grid and your most recent posts, and a rewritten bio will not save weak content. It also cannot make you findable on its own, because Instagram search matches the name field rather than the bio text, so keyword work belongs there. For the words on your posts, use the Instagram caption generator, and if your handle itself is the problem, the Instagram username generator is the better starting point.

How teams picture using RepeatPost

“Honestly, the calendar is what sold me. I could see every channel in one view and spot the week we'd gone quiet. Before this I was juggling three spreadsheets and a Slack thread. Now I plan the month on a Monday morning and I'm done by half ten.”

“We run social for eleven clients and keeping them separate used to be a genuine anxiety of mine. Workspaces fixed that. Each client sits in their own space, approvals route to the right person, and I've stopped worrying that someone's going to push a dental practice promo to a restaurant account at 6am.”

“I batch a fortnight of content on a Sunday arvo and then I don't think about it again. Reckon it's saved me a solid day a week. Only gripe is the mobile app still feels a step behind the web version, so I do the actual planning on my laptop. Everything else is spot on.”

“I'm handling social for four small brands and writing captions was eating my whole morning. The AI drafts are actually quite usable now. I still rewrite maybe every third one to sound like the client, but starting from something beats staring at a blank box. The hashtag tool alone I'm using daily.”

“I sell fabrics and my customers find me on Instagram mostly. Posting used to be whenever I remembered, which was maybe twice a week. Now I sit down every Sunday evening, load up two weeks, and it goes out on its own. Sales have followed. I'd like to see WhatsApp added properly, that's my one ask.”

“Our team is five people and we were losing posts in Slack threads. Someone would approve something, someone else would tweak it, and nobody knew which version went live. The approval flow sorted that in a week. Fair play, it's the least glamorous feature on the site and it's the one I'd miss most.”

Frequently Asked
Questions

The bio field holds 150 characters, and emoji and line breaks both count toward that. The name field above it is separate and holds 30 characters, which is worth knowing because that field is what Instagram search actually matches.

In the name field rather than the bio. Instagram search matches the name field, so writing "Sarah | Vegan Recipes" makes you findable for that term. The same words placed in the bio text do not have the same effect.

Instagram collapses ordinary line breaks in the bio field the same way it does in captions. Run the text through the free Instagram line breaker first and paste the result rather than retyping it, and the spacing will hold.

A couple as visual markers is fine. A decorative row of them is not, because each one costs characters from a budget of only 150 and none of them tell a visitor what you post or why they should follow you.

A call to action pointing at your link. This is the most commonly skipped element and the most costly to skip, because a visitor who reads your bio, understands it, and is given nothing to do will simply leave the profile.

Yes, output is unrestricted for commercial and agency work. Run it once per client with their niche described specifically, since the value of these bios comes almost entirely from how precisely the niche is stated.
