All about the Google Business post preview
These posts are not social posts
Google Business Profile posts appear inside your business listing in Google Search and Maps, which is a fundamentally different context from a social feed. The person seeing them is usually looking for your opening hours, your address or your phone number, and the post sits alongside that practical information. Space is tight and text is truncated aggressively, far more than on any social platform. The result is that a post whose offer sits in the second sentence is effectively a post with no offer, because almost nobody taps to expand.
What to check before publishing
Local search has different constraints from a feed.
- Where the text truncates, which is much earlier than people expect.
- That the offer, date or key detail is above that cut.
- That an image is attached, since these posts are image led and a bare text post underperforms.
- That any call to action button is set, since Business Profile posts support them and they convert well.
- That the post is still relevant, because Google expires some post types after a period.
- How it looks on mobile, since most local searches happen there.
Why local intent changes the writing
The audience is different from a social one in a specific way.
- They are already looking for you, or for a business like you nearby, so persuasion matters less than clarity.
- They usually want a practical detail: is it open, what does it cost, is the offer still on.
- Local searches convert quickly, so a post that answers the question directly does more than one that builds a brand.
- The post sits alongside your reviews and hours, which carry more weight than any copy you write.
- Being specific about dates and prices is more valuable here than on any social platform.
Who uses this tool
Local businesses whose customers arrive through Google rather than social.
- Restaurants and cafes posting menu changes or opening hours.
- Retailers announcing offers where the discount has to be visible immediately.
- Service businesses posting availability or seasonal changes.
- Anyone managing several locations and needing consistent posts across them.
- Businesses whose posts get impressions but almost no taps.

When this is not the right tool
Posts are a small part of a Business Profile. Your reviews, your hours, your category and your photos do far more to bring customers in, and a business with poor reviews will not be rescued by a well written post. Filling in the structured fields properly matters more than anything you publish. If you are writing for a social feed rather than a listing, the platform previews are the right tools instead, such as the Facebook post preview. For the profile text itself, the Facebook bio generator covers similar local business ground.
How teams picture using RepeatPost
“Honestly, the calendar is what sold me. I could see every channel in one view and spot the week we'd gone quiet. Before this I was juggling three spreadsheets and a Slack thread. Now I plan the month on a Monday morning and I'm done by half ten.”
Hannah Whitfield

United KingdomJun 14, 2026“We run social for eleven clients and keeping them separate used to be a genuine anxiety of mine. Workspaces fixed that. Each client sits in their own space, approvals route to the right person, and I've stopped worrying that someone's going to push a dental practice promo to a restaurant account at 6am.”

United StatesJun 29, 2026“I batch a fortnight of content on a Sunday arvo and then I don't think about it again. Reckon it's saved me a solid day a week. Only gripe is the mobile app still feels a step behind the web version, so I do the actual planning on my laptop. Everything else is spot on.”

I still rewrite maybe every third one to sound like the client, but starting from something beats staring at a blank box. The hashtag tool alone I'm using daily.”

IndiaJul 30, 2026“I sell fabrics and my customers find me on Instagram mostly. Posting used to be whenever I remembered, which was maybe twice a week. Now I sit down every Sunday evening, load up two weeks, and it goes out on its own. Sales have followed. I'd like to see WhatsApp added properly, that's my one ask.”

NigeriaAug 18, 2026“Our team is five people and we were losing posts in Slack threads. Someone would approve something, someone else would tweak it, and nobody knew which version went live. The approval flow sorted that in a week. Fair play, it's the least glamorous feature on the site and it's the one I'd miss most.”

Questions
Inside your business listing in Google Search and Maps, alongside your hours, address and reviews. That is a very different context from a social feed, and the person seeing it is usually looking for practical information.
Considerably less than on any social platform. Only a short opening shows before a customer has to tap for more, and most never do, so anything important has to sit in the first line or two.
Strongly recommended. Business Profile posts are image led and a text only post underperforms noticeably. The image is often what draws attention to the post existing at all within a busy listing.
Yes where it fits. Business Profile posts support them and they convert well, because the person reading has local intent and is frequently ready to act rather than browsing casually.
Some post types do, depending on what you choose. Google has changed post types and their durations over time, so it is worth checking the behavior of the specific type you are using rather than assuming.
Reviews, hours, category and photos, by a considerable margin. Those are what customers read and what Google weights. A well written post will not compensate for poor reviews or missing opening hours.
